Inclusive Books for Children logo

Our impact

The year 2025 marked the second full year of our ambitious long-term strategy, focused on addressing critical challenges in UK children’s publishing through 3 key priorities:

  1. Increasing accessibility to inclusive children’s books for parents and children across the UK
  2. Supporting under-represented authors and illustrators working within the UK children’s publishing
  3. Challenging the publishing industry to reflect and provoke meaningful change

We are proud of the significant progress we’ve made in partnership with independent publishers, booksellers and literacy organisations, working together to bring our mission to life and create a more inclusive future for children’s literature.

Below, we highlight the key achievements of 2025 that demonstrate the tangible impact of our efforts across these three priorities:

Priority 1

435 titles reviewed and uploaded to our online database

8,250 free books already donated to schools via our IBC Book Box initiative

14 independent bookshops across the UK signed-up to our IBC Bookshelf campaign

Priority 3

Published our impactful Excluded Voices report in October 2025

Based on the exhaustive analysis of our book database, the report examined the extent to which British authors and illustrators from marginalised communities input into the creation of Own Voice stories for children
